Gilbert Kleiner, FSA - Executive Director

Before coming to the Jacksonville Jewish Center, Gil had been the Executive Director of Beth El Congregation in Baltimore, MD. since 1989. He holds a Master's Degree from the American University Kogod College of Business Administration and is a Fellow in Synagogue Administration having recieved his certification in Jerusalem, in 1994 from the North American Asociation of Synagogue Executives.

Gil has served as president of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Temple and Synagogue Administrators and is a past president of the North American Association of Synagigue Executives. He is founder of Adat Chaim congregation of Reisterstown, Maryland and was its second president in the mid-1980's.

Gil and his wife, Carol, have four adult children, three grandsons and two granddaughters.

Raquel Scharf-Anderson - Head of Schools; DuBow Preschool & Martin J. Gottlieb Day SchooL

Raquel Scharf-Anderson earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and World History from Russell Sage College and her master's degree in Literacy with a focus in Special Education from the Sage Colleges. She began her teaching career at Westmere Elmentary in Guilderland, New York. Raquel also taught as an adjunct professor at her alma mater. She later moved to Arizona where she taught middle school science and opened an educational consulting business, The Whole Learner. Raquel gave presentations and led professional development for schools on special education inclusion and reading. 

Raquel began her administrative career as the Director of Curriculum & Instruction later moving to Assistant Head of School for Academics at Pardes Jewish Day School in Scottsdale, Arizona. After seven years at Pardes, Raquel took the Head of School position at Da Vinci Academy, a preschool - grade 8 program for gifted learners. During her tenure, Raquel spoke nationally on Emotional Quotient and the needs of gifted learners. Raquel was delighted to participate in Northwestern University Kellogg's School of Non-Profit Management program for Heads of Schools. 

In her personal time, Raquel loves to spend time with family and taking long walks her two dogs. She also enjoys baking, reading, playing games and travel! Raquel and her husband, Eric, are the proud parents of Samuel and Tzipporah.

Dale Schemer - DuBow Preschool Director

Dale Schemer holds a Bachelors degree in Exceptional Education from the University of Florida and a Masters degree in Deaf Education from the University of North Florida.

Dale has taught at New Hope School in Ocala, Pine Forest Elementary and at Mount Herman ESE Center in Jacksonville. She began teaching at the Jacksonville Jewish Center Preschool while  her first two sons were attending and taught there for the next 10 years, taking off time for the birth of her next two sons. She returned to the Preschool as the director in 1998 and was there through 2005.

After retirement, Dale co-created and co-owned Baby Sign-A-Long. A mommy and me program that teaches parents to communicate with their baby through the use of sign language. 

Dale has been married to her college sweetheart, Jack Schemer for 42 years. She is fortunate enough to have all 4 sons, Adam, Blair, Mathew and Andrew living and working in Jacksonville, along with her two beautiful daughter-in-laws, Erin and Anna, and 4 "perfect" grandchildren Lily, Brody, Ella and Kingston.

Dale has quite a few hobbies including gardening and jewelry making, but her favorite hobby is spending time with her grandchildren.

LOIS TOMPKINS - Bernard & Alice Selevan Religious School Principal

Lois has been the principal of the Bernard & Alice Selevan Religious School at the Jacksonville Jewish Center since 2001.  She is also staff coordinator for all Adult Education for the congregation.  Lois began her professional journey in Jewish education at Beth Shalom Congregation (Jacksonville) in 1990, first as a teacher and then as the Religious School’s director from 1995-2001.  She has a degree in Secondary Education, but continued her education to focus on learning disabilities and special needs in elementary education.   She has been married to Bob Tompkins for 34 years, and is the proud mother of two sons, Ben and Alec, and her dogs, Shmoo and Cannoli.

Brent Ganey is the maintenance supervisor.  He attended FSCJ for electrical theory studies, commercial arts & culinary arts and Whitney M Young Job Corps Louisville KY for construction electricity. He has a varied background with 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, hotel and restaurant management, culinary arts, mechanical maintenance and renovations, and property management. Brent is single and enjoys art, sculpture, music, and boating.
