Gilbert Kleiner, FSA - Executive Director

Before coming to the Jacksonville Jewish Center, Gil had been the Executive Director of Beth El Congregation in Baltimore, MD. since 1989. He holds a Master's Degree from the American University Kogod College of Business Administration and is a Fellow in Synagogue Administration having recieved his certification in Jerusalem, in 1994 from the North American Asociation of Synagogue Executives.

Gil has served as president of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Temple and Synagogue Administrators and is a past president of the North American Association of Synagigue Executives. He is founder of Adat Chaim congregation of Reisterstown, Maryland and was its second president in the mid-1980's.

Gil and his wife, Carol, have four adult children, three grandsons and two granddaughters.

Raquel Scharf-Anderson - Head of Schools; DuBow Preschool & Martin J. Gottlieb Day SchooL

Raquel Scharf-Anderson earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and World History from Russell Sage College and her master's degree in Literacy with a focus in Special Education from the Sage Colleges. She began her teaching career at Westmere Elmentary in Guilderland, New York. Raquel also taught as an adjunct professor at her alma mater. She later moved to Arizona where she taught middle school science and opened an educational consulting business, The Whole Learner. Raquel gave presentations and led professional development for schools on special education inclusion and reading. 

 

 

 

 

 

LOIS TOMPKINS - Bernard & Alice Selevan Religious School Principal

Lois has been the principal of the Bernard & Alice Selevan Religious School at the Jacksonville Jewish Center since 2001.  She is also staff coordinator for all Adult Education for the congregation.  Lois began her professional journey in Jewish education at Beth Shalom Congregation (Jacksonville) in 1990, first as a teacher and then as the Religious School’s director from 1995-2001.  She has a degree in Secondary Education, but continued her education to focus on learning disabilities and special needs in elementary education.   She has been married to Bob Tompkins for 34 years, and is the proud mother of two sons, Ben and Alec, and her dogs, Shmoo and Cannoli.

BRENT GANEY- FACILITIES DIRECTOR

Brent Ganey is the maintenance supervisor.  He attended FSCJ for electrical theory studies, commercial arts & culinary arts and Whitney M Young Job Corps Louisville KY for construction electricity. He has a varied background with 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, hotel and restaurant management, culinary arts, mechanical maintenance and renovations, and property management. Brent is single and enjoys art, sculpture, music, and boating.
