Update from Monday, September 2, 2019, 1:45 PM)

Dear Friends,

As we continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian's we wish to update you with important storm-related synagogue news.

Even if the center of the hurricane stays off the coast we anticipate the likelihood of significant weather impacts including tropical-storm-force winds, bridge closures, local flooding, and downed power lines and/or trees.  Because of our unwillingness to risk the safety of our members and staff, the Jacksonville Jewish Center will be closed on Tuesday, September 3rd and Wednesday, September 4th for all programs, classes, as well as morning and evening minyanim. We also remind you the DuBow Preschool & Martin J. Gottlieb Day School will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 3rd and 4th,  as well as the Bernard & Alice Selevan Religious School and the Jewish Teen Leadership Initiative (JTLI) on Wednesday, September 4th.

Once the storm has passed and we are able to safely return to the Center, we will share additional information about Thursday, September 5th and onward. This information, including any additional Center & School closures, will be sent out via email, available on our social media platforms HERE & HERE and on our website HERE.

If you find yourself in a pastoral emergency, you can reach our clergy on their cell phones. Rabbi Lubliner's cell phone # is 904-710-9395, Rabbi Rosenblum's # is 201-463-2825 and Hazzan Holzer's # is 646-319-2345. If any of them don't answer, leave a message or send a text and they will respond as soon as they are able.

Below you'll find a number of resources for storm preparation as well as ways to stay informed as the storm progresses. It is our hope that as a community we can come together to offer resources for those affected by the storm once it has passed.

As Hurricane Irma approached us in 2017, Rabbi Rosenblum shared a number of prayers one can say with the approach of a devastating storm. You can find links to some of these HERE and HERE. For those who have and are preparing to evacuate, we pray for your safe return. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those in the Bahamas who now face Dorian head-on. For those still in Dorian's path, we pray for your safety and well being. May the one who makes peace in the heavens grant peace to all God's children everywhere in the week ahead.

B'Shalom
Your Jacksonville Jewish Center Leadership.
